The Quest 3 is set to incorporate Meta’s high-resolution display and pancake optics, aiming to elevate the visual experience for users. The device will also be the first to feature a next-generation Snapdragon chipset, developed in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. This new chipset is expected to deliver over twice the graphical performance of its predecessor in Quest 2.

Meta’s announcement also highlighted the integration of its Meta Reality technology in Quest 3. This feature aims to merge the physical and virtual worlds, offering users a more immersive and interactive experience. The technology utilizes high-fidelity color Passthrough, machine learning, and spatial understanding to enable simultaneous interaction with virtual content and the physical world.

In terms of design, the Quest 3 is reported to be 40% slimmer than the Quest 2, and its Touch Plus controllers have been redesigned for improved ergonomics. The controllers will also incorporate TruTouch haptics, aiming to provide a more tactile user experience.

Meta also announced that Quest 3 will be compatible with the existing Quest 2 catalog, which includes over 500 VR games, apps, and experiences. This compatibility suggests that users will have immediate access to a broad library of immersive experiences upon the device’s release.

For existing Quest 2 owners, Meta has announced a price reduction starting June 4, with the 128GB SKU priced at $299.99 USD and the 256GB SKU at $349.99 USD. An upcoming software update is also expected to enhance the GPU and CPU performance of Quest 2 and Quest Pro devices.

The Quest 3 is slated for release this fall in all countries where Meta Quest is currently available. The 128GB headset is priced at $499.99 USD. More information about the Quest 3 is expected to be shared at Meta Connect, scheduled for September 27.
