Quest+: Meta’s Audible-Style VR Game Subscription for Quest Headsets

On 26 June 2023, Meta Quest, the popular VR platform owned by Meta (the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp), announced on the official Meta Quest blog the launch of a new subscription service, Meta Quest+. This service aims to simplify the exploration of the Meta Quest catalog for both seasoned and novice VR gamers.

Priced at $7.99 per month or $59.99 annually, subscribers can save over 37% with the yearly plan. The service offers two curated VR titles each month, providing an economical way to expand one’s VR library. As a promotional offer, new subscribers can avail of the first month’s subscription for just $1 if they sign up before July 31, 2023.

The subscription service provides two VR titles at the beginning of each month for subscribers to redeem and enjoy. The first pair of games includes Cloudhead Games’ action-rhythm FPS Pistol Whip and the arcade adventure Pixel Ripped 1995 by ARVORE Immersive Experiences. The August line-up features a social VR experience, Walkabout Mini Golf by Mighty Coconut, and a frantic weapon-crafting shooter game, MOTHERGUNSHIP: FORGE by Terrible Posture Games.

Subscribers can retain these titles as long as they maintain their subscription, adding value over time. The service also offers the flexibility to cancel at any time. If a subscriber decides to rejoin later, they will regain access to all the titles from their original paid subscription period.

Both Meta’s Quest+ and Amazon’s Audible subscription services offer a subscription model that allows users to expand their library over time, adding value to their subscription. They also provide the flexibility to retain access to the content as long as the subscription is active, and if a subscriber decides to cancel and later rejoins, they regain access to the content from their original subscription period.

However, while Audible allows subscribers to choose their audiobooks each month, offering a personalized experience, Quest+ operates differently. Quest+ provides a curated selection of two VR games each month, chosen by Meta. This approach introduces subscribers to new VR experiences they might not have discovered on their own, offering a unique blend of surprise and discovery. Thus, while both services aim to provide value and convenience, the level of user control over the content selection differs between the two.

Meta Quest+ is accessible to all Quest 2 and Quest Pro headset owners and is forward-compatible with Quest 3. The service is exclusively available on the Meta Quest Store. The company encourages users to subscribe soon to avail of the introductory offer of $1 for the first month, followed by $7.99 per month, or to opt for the annual subscription at $59.99 for the best deal.
