Roblox, the widely beloved online multiplayer game creation platform, is set to launch on Meta Quest, according to an announcement from Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as the maker of the Quest series of VR/AR headsets.
Renowned for hosting millions of user-created games, Roblox boasts a community of over 66 million daily users. The platform offers a rich variety of games spanning genres from racing and role-playing games to simulations and obstacle courses. Roblox’s unique model enables users to create their own games using Roblox Studio, a powerful tool that even allows users to monetize their creations.
With its own virtual economy, powered by a virtual currency called Robux, players on Roblox can earn or buy Robux to purchase in-game items, avatar upgrades, or premium features. A key aspect of Roblox’s appeal is its social features, allowing players to add friends, join groups, chat with other players, and participate in virtual events. Additionally, Roblox provides parental controls to manage the type of content a child can access and their interactions.
The Meta Quest platform will soon expand its gaming ecosystem to include Roblox. This move aims to extend Roblox’s reach, introducing it to users of Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, and the upcoming Quest 3.
Before its full launch on the Meta Quest Store, an open beta version of Roblox will be released. This provides Roblox developers with a chance to optimize their games for VR, gather feedback from the Quest community, and create new VR-centric games.
One of the major advantages of Roblox is its cross-platform capability. Even in VR, players will be able to connect with friends across different platforms, including Xbox, iOS, Android, and desktop, pushing the social aspects of VR gaming.
Roblox will be available on Meta Quest for users aged 13 and up, with parental supervision tools available for added safety.
